Get the most from your Shoe Storage Cabinet

Once you have your shoe storage cabinet, and it is in place and ready to go, all you have to do is shove your shoes in. But, shoving all your shoes in really isn't the right way to go about stocking your new shoe storage cabinet. The whole purpose of having one is to keep your shoes nice and neat and tidy, so throwing them in any old way and shutting the door isn't the way to go about it. Take some time to sort through your shoes, pick out the ones you wear most often, and know you are going to want to be able to get to easily. Make sure they are clean and in good condition before you put them away. Then think about the rest of your shoes, do you have shoes you only wear on holiday, or perhaps hiking boots that aren't as well used as initially intended. Try to keep the shoes you are storing in there clean, at least to some degree. It is always a good idea to have a good clean out of your shoe storage cabinet once a year, taking them all out and having a good hoover and wipe down of the inside, you will be amazed at what gathers in the bottom of them. It is also a good idea to keep some kind of odour destroyer in with your shoes, that way not only the cabinet but your shoes will always smell fresh and nice.

If you have gone for a very large cabinet then you will probably be able to fit all your shoes in one, in which case work out which part of the cabinet is easiest to get shoes from and put your most worn shoes in that section so you don't have to scrabble to get at your shoes. If you have a couple of shoe storage cabinets, then think about the type of shoes you are putting in them in relation to where they are in the house. If you have lots of wellies that are worn in the garden, then the best place for them to be kept would be in a shoe storage cabinet near the back door of the house so that muddy feet aren't run through the house, likewise if you have a favourite pair of slippers you like to put on as soon as you get in, then have a cabinet near the front door so you can swap your shoes for your slippers straight away. If you are keeping a shoe storage cabinet in the hallway, then it is a good idea to get one that doubles up as a bit of a general storage unit too, perhaps with some shelves or little drawers so that stuff can be kept in there such as spare keys, or perhaps hats and scarves.
